Allendale, St. Pete | Cutesy Eco-System

This project transforms a traditional lawn into a lively, native plant ecosystem. This purposeful design promotes biodiversity while creating a delightful space that harmonizes with its surroundings.

The Problem |

The lawn was a patchy mix of hand-sprinkled grass that struggled to absorb rain, causing runoff issues. Additionally, it required constant mowing to manage unwanted volunteer grasses.

The Solution |

Revitalize the area by restoring a thriving ecosystem both in the soil and above. Enrich the soil with Florida-friendly, nitrogen-fixing ground cover and introduce native plants with deep root systems to better absorb rain and stormwater, creating a water-efficient yard. This approach attracts beneficial pollinators and local birds while offering a serene view from the reading nook by the front windows.

Before

Front view of a small white house with a dark door, surrounded by trees and bushes, with a concrete pathway leading to the house from the sidewalk on a partly cloudy day.

Post Install

Front view of a white house with black front door, large window, and porch with wooden posts, surrounded by plants and a yard.

Now

View of a suburban front yard with a palm tree, green grass with yellow flowers, a concrete sidewalk, and a house with light gray siding and white trim.
